Doctors

In addition to their roles as family practitioners the doctors maintain expertise by having appointments in clinical governance (raising the quality and standards in the NHS), appraisal of other GPs, emergency care, the Health Protection Agency and medical teaching.
  • DR ANGELA WATERHOUSE (GP PARTNER)

    MB ChB (hons) MRCGP DCH DFFP First registered 1990 (Birmingham)

    I qualified from Birmingham medical school in 1990 then trained and worked as a GP in the West Midlands before moving to Eaglescliffe Medical Practice in 2002. I am a GP trainer- I supervise doctors through their training to become GPs and I also teach medical students. Practice Lead for Human Resources and GP Training.

    MB BS MRCGP First registered 2010 (Newcastle)

    Dr Stephen Salvati started working at the practice in 2016 and is involved in the training of GP registrars. Dr Salvati works closely with H&SH to deliver their enhanced access and nurse practitioners as clinical lead.

    I have joined Eaglescliffe Medical Practice from serving 11 years in the Army. Specialist interests include Medical Education, Veterans' Health and Computer Systems. Current lead for PPG and social media.

  • DR DANIEL NUNNERY (GP PARTNER)

    MBChB (Hons), MRCP (UK), MRCGP. First Registered 2010 (Liverpool)

    I studied medicine at the University of Liverpool and went on to complete core medical training, gaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). I completed general practice training locally and joined Eaglescliffe Medical Practice in 2022. My areas of interest in general internal medicine, dermatology and medical education.

  • DR NICOLA COTTLE (GP PARTNER)

    MBChB (Hons), Bsc (1st Class) Biomedical Science, PGCert Medical Education, MRCGP. First Registered 2015 (Birmingham)

    I graduated from Birmingham Medical school in 2015 but returned North to my hometown of Stockton-on-Tees as soon as I qualified. I started as GP Partner at Eaglescliffe in 2025. Areas of interest include care of the elderly, frailty, OBGYN, and medical education.

    Dr Fiona Smith has been working at the practice for 15 years. As well as teaching medical students Dr Smith has a special interest in young people's health. Practice Lead for Young People's Health.

  • DR REBECCA HEPWORTH

    MBChB, MRCGP. First registered 2012 (Sheffield)

    I joined the practice as a salaried GP in September 2023, having been a GP registrar at the practice before that. I live locally with my family and moved back to the North East, where I am originally from, after medical school. My areas of interest include: women's health, palliative care and medical education.

    Dr Awwab Shahid, M.D, MRCGP, First registered 2020

    I joined the practice as a GP in 2025 having completed the final year of my GP training at the practice prior to this. Having grown up in the area I returned after completing medical school in Europe to do my foundation training at James Cook hospital. My areas of interest include sports and exercise medicine and medical education, and I have completed training in minor surgery and joint injections which I hope to gain further experience in and potentially bring to the practice down the line.

Nurses

Our nurses specialise in health promotion. They are available for smear testing, smoking cessation, immunisation and travel advice. They assist in the monitoring of some ongoing conditions and can offer advice in such matters as contraception.

Healthcare Assistants

Our Health Care Assistant provides well person checks and helps in the monitoring of certain conditions. She performs tests such as electrocardiography, lung function tests and assists in the provision of minor operations and phlebotomy. If you have registered with us in the last 6 months, are over 75 and have not seen a health professional in the last year, or are registered with us but have not attended in the last 3 years, you are welcome to make an appointment with her for a check up.
