What can I expect?

They will complete an assessment as part of the initial consultation. The purpose of this assessment is to gain an accurate insight of your needs to provide appropriate guidance and treatment. During an assessment, the following points may be discussed (where appropriate):

• Mental health symptoms
• Physical health and wellbeing
• Housing and financial matters
• Gender and sexuality
• Relationships
• Cultural and ethnic backgrounds
• Drug and alcohol intake
• Thoughts and feelings
• Past experiences, especially of similar problems
• Employment and training requirements
• Issues relevant to your or others’ safety
• Dependants

As a result of the ongoing pandemic, mental health appointments are typically carried out across up to 6 telephone appointments lasting up to 20 minutes each, where you only need to talk about what you're comfortable discussing. Openness and honesty are encouraged to help us provide the most appropriate diagnosis and/or treatment.

Who is the service for?

The service is for patients that are aged 18+ and are not currently receiving mental health treatment via a secondary service (e.g. hospitals, psychological wellbeing services, community mental health teams (CMHTs), crisis resolution and home treatment teams).

What can I do if I am under 18?

What is CBT? Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) recognises that our feelings (whether good or bad) ultimately affect our thoughts and subsequent actions. This has incorprated a lot of the services that was captured with the Transition, Intervention and Liaison (TIL) Services along with other high end treatments. This would allow individuals to have access to treatments similar to that whilst in military service.

This is a the current drive from the Ministry of Defence to encourage mental fitness. It is freely available though and so for certain people they might their approach more fitting.

Harbour

Harbour is the main provider of services for those living with domestic abuse in Stockton-on-Tees.

The organisation offers support to individuals and families by providing safe accommodation in the refuge and practical support in the community to women, men and children, including a range of group programmes.

Harbour also offers services to those who perpetrate abuse but want to change their behaviour.
For those who have experienced sexual violence, Harbour can provide a counselling service, with both individual and group support.

Harbour can also provide advice to those worried about a friend or relative who they believe may be in an abusive relationship.

A registered charity, Harbour also works across Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, County Durham and North Tyneside as well as Stockton-on-Tees.

Abuse Support For Men

Men’s Advice Line is a confidential helpline, email and webchat service for men affected by domestic abuse.

The organisation offers advice and emotional support to men who experience abuse, as well as signposting to other vital services that help men keep themselves (and their children) safe.
The helpline's friendly advisors provide confidential support, practical advice and information.
Men’s Advice Line is for men who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse, and for those supporting them. Concerned friends or family members and Frontline Workers assisting male victims are all welcome to call for information and support.

Halo Project

The Halo Project Charity is a national project supporting victims of honor-based violence, forced marriages and FGM.

The charity provides appropriate advice and support to victims and works with key partners to provide required interventions and advice necessary for the protection and safety of victims.
Their free and confidential service is tailored to suit the needs of the individual and includes practical support, advocacy services including support to access legal service and to attend court, and referrals to emergency refuge accommodation and housing providers.
